Understanding Stress Resilience
In our busy world, stress is everywhere. Between doing a good job at work, worrying about how you will save money for retirement, and figuring out what to feed yourself (and possibly a whole family) everyday, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed by daily life. But being able to handle stress well is important to feel good and satisfied in life. Let's learn more about what stress resilience means and how it can help you. Stress resilience means being able to stay healthy and strong even when you're stressed. Instead of seeing stress as only bad, it can be helpful to view it as your body preparing to help you meet the challenges of daily life. Stress is normal, but it's important to be able bounce back from it.
How can you do that?
Practice Mindfulness: This means paying attention to what's happening around you and inside you. It can help you deal with stress better. For a more in depth review on how to practice mindfulness, read this book.
Get Good Sleep: Having a regular sleep schedule and a bedtime routine can make your sleep better, which helps with stress.
Exercise Regularly: Moving your body can lower stress levels and make you stronger.
Healthy Habits: Eating well, drinking water, and not having too much caffeine or alcohol are all important for handling stress.
Be Social: Talking to friends and family when you're stressed can help you feel better.
Dealing with stress is something we all have to learn to do. What isn’t helpful is to add being stressed about your stress to your list of things to worry about. Remember, stress isn't always bad. If you can bring awareness and a non-judgmental attitude, that’s already a big step towards stress resilience!
